The year was 1950, and Jim Lupient was 16. He began working part-time at a dealership in northeast Minneapolis, washing cars and running the lot. Several years later, Jim lost his father and went to work full-time at the dealership. One day he was asked to put on a sports coat and man the store while the family attended a wedding. Five sold cars later, a salesman was born!

Jim Lupient spent the next years working his way up the ladder at several large local dealerships. He was named top salesman many times over, then progressed to become a top sales manager. Jim developed a philosophy that he has carried with him: "Do what's right. If you treat the customer fairly from the get-go, they will want to come back." These values have served him well. From owning his very first Oldsmobile dealership in 1969 to operating 35 franchises in numerous locations, and finally creating the Lupient Automotive Group in 1986, doing what's right continues to be the heart and soul of the Lupient business.
Jim Lupient was recognized for focusing on community involvement and superior customer service when he was awarded TIME magazine's "Quality Dealer of the Year" in 1990. He was the first Minnesotan to receive the honor in the award's 20 year history.
Later in 1992, Jim received the Sports Illustrated American Dealer of the Year award, as well as the top foreign car sales award. Jim remains the only dealer to have received both awards in the same year.
Jim's commitment to customer satisfaction is legendary in the industry and practiced every day by the Lupient family members who carry forward this lasting legacy. Anyone working in a Midwestern automobile dealership will confirm that the Lupient Automotive Group is one of the most respectable employers in the region. Jim always said that one of the biggest keys to success is the ability to surround yourself with good people. Employees at every level of the organization all have one thing in common: like Jim, they care very deeply about doing what is right for the customer.
